Memsaheb's Khanakhazana and Mirchmasala
What does cooking mean to me? Cooking meant staring at my mother bringing forth mouth watering samosas and delicious biryanis in the kitchen from apparently inedible ingredients. I wondered if I could ever become a magician like her. Ma didn’t like having me hanging around the kitchen. She would shoo me out saying, ‘You will always have to cook all your life once you are grown up.’ Occasionally I would manage to sneak out a samosa before the whole batch was ready.

Prawn butterflies
These prawns were bought frozen from one of those malls that have sprouted all over the city. Guddu had to just deep fry it to make a wonderful evening snack for the little one. Please note the white pepper bottle I had discovered there as well. The picture is not complete without describing the pizza home made topped with cheese.

AlurDom
Alur Dom decorated with kancha lanka for effect.
Please note the wonderful flower at the back that’s supposed to be kept in the middle of the dining table for a
cheerful effect but I always find it pushed to a corner and remains largely
ignored. It goes without saying that the alurdom largely forbidden now( because
potatoes, and fried items are to be best forgotten)brought back a tidal wave of
childhood memories. Luchi as an accompaniment. Heaven. I discovered that green
chillies have a lot of health benefits as well. Here is one thing that tastes
just out of the world and is good too! Cancer, heart disease all are kept at
bay.

Aloo chaat with baby ones from
Bengali Market tucked away in corner of Jaipur that caters to the Bengalis wishing for kancha lankas and vegetables usually not seen in the regular sabzimandi. The trucks come once a week and one can get all kinds of fish as well.
This chaat was made by boiling the potatoes and tossing in the delicious dry masala and grilled. It was topped with pudina chutney that has a velvety taste thanks to the kaju paste thrown into it.

Chilla stuffed with cheese
How does it feel to start the day with a traditional chilla transformed into a modern one stuffed with cheese for younger son? Yumm... is the reply eyes closed, savouring in each bite. The Chilla was made from moongdal sprouts and sooji batter that had a finely diced onions and green chillies. The young one is supposed to be home on a prep leave for his final exams, but the books that he devours are far from his study topics.
